The show is moving forward

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jim DeLutes @ 5:24 am

Just wanted to let all of you know that behind the scenes the show is coming together. There are a lot of details that need to be done for the show to be a success and we are getting them done. The Pavilions continue to be a great supporter of the show and are working hard to make sure the show is a success. Applications from the artists are steadily coming in and the quality has been quite impressive. If you haven’t applied yet, I would not wait until the last minute if you want to request a specific area for your booth.

  1. Can you tell me what kind of traffic to expect? I know you are working diligently to make improvements, but my husband and I have never attended nor applied for this show. He is a ceramic artist and as you probably know, Colorado artists don’t have a ton of money to burn. I have been thinking for months of making a message board for Colorado artists to express their opinions about various shows…give lodging tips…inventory tips…set up tips…and helpful things of that nature. For example, David and I live in Eagle County and have done the Minturn Market, the Vail Arts Festival, the Vail Market and have attended the Beaver Creek Arts Festival. We have lots of feedback on the shows and the clientel. I would be interested in hearing your opinion on a message board of this sort. Feel free to email me at cfarrall@christielodge.com. Love your blog. I think it’s a great forum. Keep up the good work. Hope to meet you Memorial Day Weekend.

  2. Christina – Thanks for your comments. In its 8 year history, the show has been at this location for 6 of them. Estimates of the crowds through those years have ranged from 90,000 to 170,000. The Pavilions estimate that approximately 60,000 people walk by and through the Pavilions daily. As an artist that has done this show every year except one, I can tell you that this was one of my best shows in the country for most of those years. This show has proven itself in the past and now we need to take it back to those days when the quality of the art and the crowd was impressive. It may take a couple of years to build it back up to those levels but even on its low years it is an excellent show for sales. As far as a forum/ message board for Colorado artists, I have been encouraging people to do that for years. I think it is a great idea and would do it myself but since I also run the Colorado Artist Tour, I have to keep an arms length from evaluating the shows or even commenting on them. I would gladly link from the CAT website to anyone that would create such a forum. Thanks again for your interest in the DDAF and hope you will apply. Jim DeLutes, Director
